12th week updates 😬

    Week 12!! The end of the semester is so close, I can't wait. I had a pretty busy week, and it's not over yet. After working some more shifts this past weekend, I had two big exams to study for, which were back-to-back: chemistry and anatomy. I was so tired, but after getting my naps in, I was fine. I managed to study and get my other schoolwork done to not be behind and stay on top of things. With the last few weeks coming up, it's easy to get side tracked and less motivated, but for me it's the opposite. I'm just trying to get everything done as soon as I can but also as best as I can. 


    In English-Comp class, we were introduced with the last project prompt which is a rational argument. I have a couple of ideas in mind when this prompt came up, but I'm not quite sure what I want to continue with and actually write/learn more about. One option is something related to reality TV shows. I don't watch a lot of TV, but when I do it is reality TV. I love watching dating shows, game shows, and Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and Chrisley Knows Best. I know I can't be the only one! I guess what I'm unsure about though, is what to do from there. Should I find a possible problem with it, or what? I have another potential topic but I'm also not sure what my thesis would be. 

    So in Lebanon, where my family is from, there's a lot going on, for the worse. There are not many jobs, the lira (dollar) value is decreasing causing everyday items and food to be more expensive, and the government is gone mad. Of course I'm interested in my family's country, and want to understand what's going on because I still have many family members there. It's heartbreaking watching the Lebanese news and seeing just plain chaos. It's also hard hearing my family who is there talk about it when we do video chats on WhatsApp. Yet again, I'm not sure what the basis of my paper will be. I'm going to look at the PNW library and google scholar to see if I can at least find some sources on my two ideas and probably talk to Dr. Kyburz and go from there. 

Lebanon currency drops to new low as financial meltdown deepens 

    On a fun note though, a bunch of my family members including myself, are going to Bloomington this weekend to tailgate and visit my brother at IU! We're bringing our mini grill, cooking out, and wearing our IU gear (sorry Boilermakers!) After the game, we're all going to my aunt's house in Indianapolis to hang out and stay the night. I think it'll be some fun family quality time.

    The end of the month, similar to the end of the semester, creeped up on us so quick! To follow up from my last blog, my birthday weekend was so fun. I'm grateful for my friends and family for taking time to make me feel special. I am so grateful for having a big family because Thanksgiving day was so much fun. Literally all my cousins and aunts and uncles were in town this year and we were together all day. It's really the little moments that you should cherish and remember forever. This mini break was well needed to just take time to relax and catch up on sleep. I also helped my mom put up the Christmas tree and decorate outside. I love Christmas and we literally did it the day after Thanksgiving.      Unfortunately, I didn't take advantage of the break school-wise.        After watching the documentary, "After Tiller," I feel more compassion, respect, and empathy towards healthcare providers and women. This documentary is showcasing the hardships doctors who perform third trimester abortions go through, especially after the assassination of their colleague and friend, George Tiller. There wasn't one scene in particular that stood out to me, because the whole documentary felt like the "same" story, but with different women and reasons as to why they're getting an abortion. When the women were explaining different health issues their babies' had, I was getting teary eyed. It's definitely heartbreaking hearing about these rare and life threatening diseases, and it's even worse when the parents think it's their fault that this sickness happened. Experimental Design Reflection

      While doing the experimental design project, I learned a lot about writing, and about myself as a writer. I usually don't use statistics and data based evidence or diction in my writing, it's mostly analysis and more pathos based. For this project I got to do both though. My group chose to recruit volunteers for Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center organization. While looking on the website, there was a lot of data and logistics, so I had to first understand what everything meant in order to analyze it. But, this topic of providing help and support to people who have been sexually assaulted, is very emotion and feeling based, which is how I like to write and topics I like to write about.      My role in the group was to do the annotated bibliography, which is what I wanted to do because I wanted to find and read different articles that could support our organization to get a better understanding of the whole thing and to help for the project.
