we were on a break !

 Finally!! I thought the days would never come. Fall break is our official first break of the year and although it is only 2 days long, it's half of my school week and a long weekend is definitely needed! It's a good time to catch up on notes, studying, homework, or just relaxing and binge-watching "On My Block," like I did. Breaks are well needed and deserved. It feels good to just unplug and take time for yourself. It helps ease stress for the moment and as mentioned earlier, give you time to catch up or get ahead of your studies. 

This title is kinda corny but it made me laugh, because it's a "Friends" reference. I love the show "Friends" so much! I rewatched the whole series like five times now. In anyone else a fan? During my first year of college at IU, actually the first semester, I took a "Race, Gender, and Prejudice in the Media," class and we did a project on a movie or TV show and analyzed it for concepts and things like that that we've learned about in class. To my dismay, I found a lot of things wrong with the show. One of my favorite shows. There are only TWO people of color in the whole show! Each being Ross' short term girlfriends. There are a bunch of demeaning homophobic and transphobic jokes, and comments about Chandler's father who does drag and is gay. They're rude "jokes" and very offensive to the LGBTQ community. Along with these problems, there's also body shaming. The friends always reminisce about Monica's "fat days." They constantly make fun of when she was bigger and make it seem like it's a bad thing and that skinny is the only body type a woman should have. Overall from doing this project last year for class, I realized the show is very sexist and stereotypical. Now when the episodes come on TV I can't help but to analyze and look out for all these things that are not appropriate and just plain out wrong. Sometimes watching it at first or just one time, you won't catch anything that really pops out like, "Wow did they really just say that?" or "Did that really just happen?" But after doing this research, I never forgot it. I might have to cancel this show as much as I liked it, I don't stand for or back up that type of behavior. And I know it's not the actors personally, obviously they're just playing a role. Although I do have to say, I love the "We were on a break!!!" line.

       After watching the documentary, "After Tiller," I feel more compassion, respect, and empathy towards healthcare providers and women. This documentary is showcasing the hardships doctors who perform third trimester abortions go through, especially after the assassination of their colleague and friend, George Tiller. There wasn't one scene in particular that stood out to me, because the whole documentary felt like the "same" story, but with different women and reasons as to why they're getting an abortion. When the women were explaining different health issues their babies' had, I was getting teary eyed. It's definitely heartbreaking hearing about these rare and life threatening diseases, and it's even worse when the parents think it's their fault that this sickness happened. Experimental Design Reflection

      While doing the experimental design project, I learned a lot about writing, and about myself as a writer. I usually don't use statistics and data based evidence or diction in my writing, it's mostly analysis and more pathos based. For this project I got to do both though. My group chose to recruit volunteers for Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center organization. While looking on the website, there was a lot of data and logistics, so I had to first understand what everything meant in order to analyze it. But, this topic of providing help and support to people who have been sexually assaulted, is very emotion and feeling based, which is how I like to write and topics I like to write about.      My role in the group was to do the annotated bibliography, which is what I wanted to do because I wanted to find and read different articles that could support our organization to get a better understanding of the whole thing and to help for the project. end of November 🦃🍂

    The end of the month, similar to the end of the semester, creeped up on us so quick! To follow up from my last blog, my birthday weekend was so fun. I'm grateful for my friends and family for taking time to make me feel special. I am so grateful for having a big family because Thanksgiving day was so much fun. Literally all my cousins and aunts and uncles were in town this year and we were together all day. It's really the little moments that you should cherish and remember forever. This mini break was well needed to just take time to relax and catch up on sleep. I also helped my mom put up the Christmas tree and decorate outside. I love Christmas and we literally did it the day after Thanksgiving.      Unfortunately, I didn't take advantage of the break school-wise.
